What is SLAM, and why does it matter?
SLAM (Simultaneous Localization and Mapping) enables a device to build a map of an unknown environment while tracking its own position within that space. The Intel RealSense T265 uses Visual-Inertial SLAM (V-SLAM), combining camera data with an onboard Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) to navigate complex environments accurately similar to how humans orient themselves using visual landmarks.
This makes the T265 ideal for environments where GPS is unavailable or unreliable, such as indoor spaces, warehouses, tunnels, and urban areas.
